“The Highlands are the perfect place for night sky & astrophotography compositions. With wide open spaces
and little or no light pollution and not forgetting the numerous dark sky dedicated areas and islands, the opportunities for night photography are endless.

Many photographers utilize star tracking systems and take multiple photographs which are then stacked to produce one stunning image. This system undoubtedly works, but I prefer to experiment with getting the very best images from just one shutter actuation, whether a long or short exposure,
keeping everything in camera. I bring out the details in the sky using my own specific post-process.
The equipment  I use is a Nikon D800E coupled with either the Irix 15mm f2.4 Blackstone or the Irix 21mm f1.4 Dragonfly; both fitted with Rollei Astoklar filters. On occasion I also use my Nikkor 16-35mm f4.

Photographing at night is my new inspiration, whether my camera is pointed upwards or I’m sitting in a hide waiting
for badgers and pine martens, the challenge of capturing the night never gets boring.
